20 Edmonds stores

See 20 fantastical salmon, clay sculptures decorated by artists, displayed in merchant
locations in the core Edmonds business district. "Salmon Run" is a collaborative promotion of
ArtistsConnect artists and sponsoring merchants. Each participating business will have a map
with all 20 locations listed, and each offers visitors a token of appreciation. Follow the
"Salmon Run" to galleries offering drawings for artwork, cheese and candy shops giving tasty
treats, children's clothing and housewares stores providing drawings for a basket
filled with goodies, a flower shop offering generous coupons, and a hair salon giving special
samples. Visit the 20 unique stores in downtown Edmonds and receive a gift at each
"Salmon Run" location.

The program, Sponsor a Salmon and Support the ARTS, is a way for the artists in conjunction with
the business community in Edmonds to raise funds for their upcoming ARTSplash art show
July 19 through 22.

ArtistsConnect wanted to find a way to integrate their artistic efforts with
local commerce. "There is an unusual beauty to the profile of a male Coho Salmon in
spawning mode, and the fact that they are designated as a species of concern in
Puget Sound made it an attractive symbol," said oil painter, Yenny Broadie who was
instrumental in selecting the image of the salmon for this promotional program.

Limited edition stoneware salmon have been created by recognized clay artist Dawn Rieck.
Twenty replicas were made available to ArtistsConnect members to paint, embellish, even bead
and tassel these macho fish. While many of the artists participating are painters, others are
artists whose primary media is photography, digital art, printmaking, jewelry and textile
art. Many artists will create outside their usual medium and style to do something
interesting, even startling.
